Review: I first heard about this movie from a friend and some online forums while scraping the internet for any vampire film that scratched the itch after watching Only Lovers Left Alive and Let The Right One in. While similar in differing ways to each other film, there's an undeniable difference in how the directors approach the film. Shot with an exclusively Iranian cast, and set in the 1970s prior to the Iranian Revolution, the black and white stylistic choice paired with a stellar soundtrack really elevates the movie beyond the typical vampire tropes in a very unfamiliar setting. However, I'll never get tired of a "feminist monster killing male abusers" storyline this film still has. I'm admittedly a sucker for it. If you're looking for a vampire film that's more cinematic while also retaining much of the fun associated with the genre, this movie is definitely for you. Plus, it's really just a gorgeously shot movie.
